Chandigarh: Hitting someone and running away seems turning easy for rash drivers in Chandigarh as even after registration of FIR’s, accused driver’s remain out of police reach and investigations keep on going.
The road accidents have reached to such an extent that till July among 248 reported cases of mishaps, 80 cases of accidents proved fatal and the police have been able to solve 187 cases.
While 61 cases are still pending in investigation as drivers involved, flee from the scene and victim’s families are still seeking justice. Among the mishaps in which accused escaped from the spot, several victims died on the spot or later succumbed to injuries at hospitals.
Official data of Chandigarh Police reveals that in year 2015, 413 accidents took place in city and among the 124 accidents were fatal but police could manage to work out 302 accidents and 111 cases of accidents are still pending in investigation.
On July 22, body of a 50-year-old activa rider was recovered by police under mysterious circumstances near Shastri light point Manimajra. The police suspected it to be a case of hit- and -run and have booked an unknown person in the matter. The victim has been identified as Raja Ram, a resident of Sector-8 Panchkula.
On May 23, a 55- year- old driver of PRTC (PEPSU Road Transport Corporation) was found crushed after hit by a rashly driven unknown vehicle here at Sector 29,
Chandigarh. The deceased was identified as Sarvjit Singh, a resident of Sector 29. Police have booked an unknown person in the matter and have not been able to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, a police official said that investigation is going at full pace in all the pending cases of accidents. After the accidents, teams are formed to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
