Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police have booked a clerk of SDM East office who has allegedly embezzled Rs 8 lakh from the account of Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector-10, Chandigarh. The accused has been identified as Rajinder Kumar, presently posted as clerk at SDM East office.
According to the police, complainant Kamlesh Rani, Senior Assistant-cum-Superintendent at Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh alleged that Rajinder Kumar who is presently posted as clerk at SDM East office mishandled the office records and embezzled Rs 8 lakh while he was posted as cashier at Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh.
The police sources said that the accused had the receipt book with him while he was working as a cashier with the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector-10. During his period of working, he misused the receipt book and embezzled the amount of Rs 8 lakh. The matter came to light later when the Audit Department found the funds were not as per the cash books.
During a departmental inquiry, it was found that Rajinder Kumar was responsible for the same. Following which the officials gave a formal police complaint against him. Inspector Poonam Dilawari, Station House Officer, Police Station Sector 3 said, “The case has been registered after an inquiry and preliminary investigation. The accused has been booked under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of the Indian Penal Code in Police Station Sector-3, Chandigarh. The investigation of the case is in progress.
