Chandigarh: Acting as Good Samaritans, the Congress workers on Saturday offered snacks and tea to the people waiting in queues to either get the currency exchanged to operate the ATM’s across the city.
The congress organised camps before banks at various sectors to help the people who thronged to deposit or exchange the old notes.
The camps were organised at Sector 20, 19, 30 and 37and Ramdarbar. The congress workers not only helped the people to fill up the forms but they offered tea and snacks to the people.
Leaders who arranged the camps included Sandeep Bhardwaj, Dr OP Verma, Rajiv Modgil, Yadvindra Mehta, Parhlad Sharma, NS Riku, Sukhi, Jagdeep Mahajan and Bhajan Kaur.
Pradeep Chhabra president Chandigarh Congress termed the decision to ban the notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 untimely and said that the decision hit the common man hard. He said that while Modi Government failed to bring the black money from Swiss banks it harassed the common man, housewives and innocent poor people of the country.
Chabbra said, “Poor people have been fighting to get the money exchanged to buy Atta and Dal for their children. Modi government has hit the daily needs of the people.”
