Chandigarh: Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 100th birth anniversary in a function held at the Manimajra on Saturday.
Large numbers of the Congress workers including former union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and President CTCC Pardeep Chhabra were present on the occasion.
Bansal while remembering Indira Gandhi said that Indira Gandhi took the country to new heights and will always be remembered by the coming generations of the country for the contribution she made for the development of the country. She was a revolutionary, a leader of conviction, compassion and sacrifice.
Bansal said that she sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the country.
He said that Indira Gandhi worked for the welfare of the poor and worked with the aim of “gareebi hatao.” Bansal also criticised the BJP Government for its many anti poor policies. He said that the people have been suffering due to the price hike soon after the Government came to the power.
Pardeep Chhabra president CTCC said that Indira Gandhi was embodiment of the empowerment of the woman.
She made the nation strong and the world knows that it was she who was instrumental in liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
Chhabra said that the Congress will celebrate 100th birth anniversary of the Indira Gandhi throughout the year.
He said that lecture, seminars will be held to make the people aware of the contribution she made to the development of the country Born on November 19, 1917 in Allahabad, Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms from January 1966 to March 1977 and a fourth term from January 14, 1980 until she was assassinated on October 31, 1984.DP
