Chandigarh: The controversy over the deaths of cows in the gowshala situated in village Magra due to cold and shortage of fodder has further deepened and Congress party has
launched a massive protest over the issue with PPCC General
Secretary Deepinder Singh Dhillon leading the protests.
The Congress leaders stage a massive dharna in front of office of Nagar panchayat here today and protestors also locked the office premises. Speakers at the dhrana give an ultimatum of 10 days to local MLA NK Sharma to respond on the
massive expenditure in crores on maintainence of this government gowshala and subsequen
t deaths of dozens of cows, then people will gherao him in Zirakpur.
Punjab government had established this Gowshala in Lalru which has embroiled in controversy for one reason or the other. Dozens of cows have died due to cold and shortage of fodder. Deepinder Singh Dhillon had arranged some fodder for the cows few days ago.
Addressing the gathering today Deepinder Singh Dhillon said that Punjab government has imposed cow cess in the state but the money collected from the people is not spent on these gowshalas
which are house to a good number of cows in the state.
Blaming NK Sharma for the deaths of cows, Mr. Dhillon said that silence of the NK Sharma speaks itself on his guilt. Protestors also blamed local MLA for playing with the religious sentiments of the people and also said that Sharma is responsible for scandal in construction and maintenance of this gowshala. They said that the local MLA is
claiming expenditure of 5 crore on this gowshala but cows are dying due to lack of fodder. He also announced that if Congress forms a government in the state, vigilance will enquire into this scandal.
Others prominent present on the occasion included PPCC member amritpal Singh,
Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, Harmesh Batauli, Vasdev Madan, Sathis Kumar Rana, Sarpanch Karnail Singh Himayupur besides others.
