Panic spread in sector 46 market after a constable of Chandigarh Police fired three rounds in air from his duty revolver on Thursday morning. Constable has been identified as Balwan Singh and was attached with VVIP security of All-India Anti-Terrorist Front, Chairman, Maninder Singh Bitta.
The accused constable has been booked under Arms Act at Police station sector 34, Chandigarh. Police sources said that the incident took place at round 8:30 am near a dhaba in sector 46. Oowner of dhaba Om Prakash stated that constable came on motorcycle with youngster and dropped him in market and suddenly the accused fired three shots in the air from his revolver.
Om Prakash immediately informed the police and arrested Balwan and recovered two shells from the spot. The local people complained that the said constable is always found in inebriated condition. SHO, Police Station 34, Baljit Singh said “We have arrested the constable under Arms Act and the weapon has been seized.” A departmental inquiry will also be marked against the cop .
