The third categorical course series on Musculoskeletal Imaging was inaugurated here on Friday at PGIMER, Chandigarh by Dr Veena Chowdhury, former director, G B Pant Hospital, New Delhi. The function was presided over by the Institute Director, Prof Yogesh Chawla and the Dean, Prof S Varma was the guest of honour.
This course is being organised by the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with the American College of Radiology (ACR) and American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP).Prof N Khandelwal Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging is the course director and Prof Akshay Kumar Saxena and Dr Kushaljit Singh Sodhi are the course co-directors from PGIMER. The scientific committee coordinators are Dr Mahesh Prakash and Dr Anindita Sinha.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Khandelwal said that this course is based on the novel concept of relating the interpretation of the images with the way the pathologists look at different disease processes.The course will primarily focus on teaching radiology to the students and fellows. Residents and fellows will be encouraged to analyze the pathology of different disease processes of the bones, muscles and joints and then correlate it with the imaging findings.
During the course of the day there were didactic lectures by eminent national and International experts including Dr Mark Murphy, Chief Musculoskeletal Imaging at the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology, Silver Spring, USA and Dr Donald Flemming, Professor of Radiology Education, Penn State Hershey Medical Centre, Hershey, USA.
The day ended with an interactive ultrasound workshop wherein experts demonstrated the ultrasound techniques for evaluation of shoulder and wrist joints. About 300 practicing radiologists and physicians along with student delegates are attending this academic feast.
