Chandigarh: The CTU buses will not be able to pass through underpass at Manimajra railway crossing no 126 due to its low height clearance. This was stated during the review meeting chaired by Mayor Arun Sood held on Monday attended by MC, UT Administrations and Railway Engineering wing officials.
However, the project was approved and given green signal for construction which is likely to be started by October end.
Arun Sood, Mayor of Chandigarh reviewed a meeting regarding the construction of underpass at Manimajra railway crossing no 126, attended by Mukesh Anand Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration, NP Sharma, Chief Engineer, MC, Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, MP Singh, Superintending Engineer, Electricity, Chandigarh Administration, Senior Town Planner, UT, Executive Engineers and Sub Divisional Engineers from Railways and concerned Executive Engineers & officers of MC, Chandigarh.
During the meeting it was decided that physical verification of 3 meter deep viability will be checked on August 30 by the team of all concerned officers.
Mayor said, “According to the comfort of general public the concerned engineers have been asked to prepare site plans accordingly. After physical verification and finalising the site plan the matter will be pursued with railway authorities for early construction of the railway underpass.”
Kapil Setia, UT Chief Architect said, “As this underpass is of low height i.e. three meters only, it will not be possible for high rise buses and trucks to cross beneath it. So, no CTU buses and trucks will be able to cross the bridge.”
Thus CTU will have to re-direct it route either through Madhya Marg or from IT park side to reach Sector 26 and 7 of the city. At present CTU approaches from this railway crossing but as generally the crossing gets congested due to heavy traffic inflow,UT Administration and MC decided to construct underpass.
