Diwali: 1,700 cops to guard every nook and corner of Chd city. As Diwali draws near, Chandigarh Police has upped its ante to ensure safety and security of residents. UT Police has decided to rope in 1,700 policemen to manage the festivity rush and security at sensitive areas in the city. The 1,700 cops include traffic police officers, officers from Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), woman constables and other police personnel. Senior Superintendent of Police Chandigarh Nilambari Jagadale said that a plan has been chalked out ahead of Diwali in the city. ‘’Around 1,700 cops have been deployed as per the programme on festive season. Police personnel including traffic cops will ensure smooth movement of traffic in the city and security in busy and sensitive areas,’’ said SSP Jagadale.‘’Other than this, regular nakas will be set up on floating basis on major routes and also on internal roads. Anti-snatching nakas will also continue as per the plan. The nakas have been diversified into three time slots i.e. 4 pm to 6 pm, 6 pm to 8 pm and 8 pm till 10 pm,’’ she added.SSP also informed that nakas will be set up at several places during the day time as well especially between 11 am to 2 pm. The police has also carried out a detailed survey of the problem areas and have drawn area-specific plans to deal with the rush. The Police Department has cancelled all the leaves and majority of the staff at UT Police Stations has been assigned duties.
