Chandigarh: Kalka Railway Station is amongst 13 railway stations of Haryana to be redeveloped on international standards on ‘as in where is’ basis, through Swiss Challenge methods by inviting bids from interested parties. This was stated by Ambala Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Dinesh Kumar during his visit to Kalka railway Station on Thursday.
DRM also pointed out that lack in provision of basic passenger amenities at the station and directed the officials to bring them up to the mark.
While stating this here, DRM said that the Haryana government has already approved the proposal to appoint
Director, Urban Local Bodies as Coordinating Officer and constitute a Standing Group to expedite these projects. He said that Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning would be the Chairman of the five member standing group.
Kalka railway station is the gateway to queen of hills Shimla connecting the two towns with Heritage Tracks on which toy trains carry tourists passing through 101 tunnels on the way. Kalka railway station will be revamped into state-of-the-art railway station with all ultra-modern facilities.
DRM said, “At present the station is neglected whereas it has the maximum footfall of visitors especially during the peak tourist seasons. I have inspected and noted some shortcomings like provision of better facilities at the waiting hall, kitchen, as well as other such amenities for the passengers at the station. The directions have been given to do the needful at the earliest.”
DRM inspected ongoing development projects at Kalka, passenger amenities like catering, base kitchen of Shatabdi, waiting halls, circulating area and parking.
