Chandigarh: Election Commissioner (EC) Rakesh Mehta conducted survey of the various police station and sensitive areas of the Chandigarh on Saturday. EC will be holding meeting with UT Administration on Monday to chalk out the plans for conducting forth coming MC elections.
EC will hold meeting over decision of the number of wards to be included in the MC elections. Speculations are being made that the number of wards will be increased from 26 to 31 this year. Some of the wards are also to be made reserved under various categories before the elections to he held. EC will hold talks with Adviser and Deputy Commissioner along with Finance Secretary and Home Secretary.
However Mehta was here to conduct survey regarding the panchayat elections slated for Sunday. Mehta said that he went around various police stations across the city to assess the preparations for conducting the elections. He said that he was satisfied with the police stations.
He also surveys various villages including Dhanas where recently colony number 5 has been shifted. UT will also be deciding upon the increasing of the wards.DP
