Chandigarh: One day after the D-Day of PUCSC elections, the Panjab University became a free campus for the outsiders as on Thursday there were no security checks at the PU entrance gates. Everyone was allowed to enter the campus without even asking for PU sticker.
When this correspondent visited the campus, outside vehicles were seen entering the campus from both gates number one and two without any security checks.
Earlier in the afternoon, even the boards which divide the lane into PU sticker and non-sticker lanes were not there. Boards were placed later in the evening.
On asking why the security checks were not done, a security officer on request of anonymity said, “The security check was tight before the elections, but now the elections are over, the risk of violence is less. So, the security has loosened up a bit.” Notably, the entry on basis of stickers was made after the firing incident of April 8 and it was again enforced strictly on August 29, when entry of non-PU stickers was banned completely and all the four-wheelers were being checked on entrance before entering the campus.
However, despite repeated calls, PU security officer Jatinder Grover could not be contacted for his comments.
