Chandigarh: Patients’ standing in a row, outside medical officer’s locked room is a frequent sight at Maloya dispensary. After waiting for a while patients contact at the window outside pharmacist room asking when the doctor will come.
When Daily post correspondent visited Maloya dispensary, first thing that catched the eye was helplessness of the patients who struggle to find any doctor at dispensary and end up taking medicine from the pharmacist sitting outside Medical Officer’s room.
When the correspondent asked as when the medical officer will come, the pharmacist, who refused to tell his name bluntly said,” I don’t know when the doctor will come. If you are unwell, take medicine from me and if you think you are very critical then go to either civil hospital phase-6, Mohali or to GMSH-16.
“Call it lack of awareness or sheer indifference of the health authorities or the Municipal Corporation, but it’s we who are at the receiving end as most of the times we have to rush to GMSH-16. And having a dispensary in our area is a curse for use, rather than a boon, “said Shanti Devi, a resident of Maloya Village.
“Whenever we visit the dispensary, after getting checked, we are being told to purchase medicine from the nearby shops, when we question if we can buy the medicines from the dispensary only, the dispensary staff bluntly refuse us, saying they are out f medicine stock,” shared another resident Shabana Khan.
