Chandigarh: High drama was witnessed during the sealing of four liquor vends by the UT Excise Department in Sector 26, on Thursday. The liquor vends owner alleged vendetta against him of being Punjab based liquor group.
Team of two Excise and Taxation officers and Inspectors sealed the four liquor vends in Sector 9, 26 and 40. The Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Ravinder Kaushik, said that the liquor group failed to deposit the requisite license renewal fee on time, even in grace period, because of which the sealing activity has been carried out.
Kaushik said, “The last date for the payment of fee was October 30, and 15 days of grace time was also given to the liquor group owners but after they failed to deposit the fee, all the four vends were sealed today.”
However on the other hand the liquor group owner Kamal Bajaj alleged that he has paid the entire pending amount along with interest and other penalties on November 16 but still they have carried out the sealing process. Bajaj said, “The UT Excise department is knitting to uproot me from Chandigarh. It is vendetta against me as my group belongs to Punjab and now from past three years I have started participating in Chandigarh auctions.
