Kirron Kher generates new hope for the unemployed youth of city
Chandigarh: While announcing the enhancement of the upper age limit for getting jobs in UT Administration, Kirron Kher Member Parliament breaks down. With wet eyes she said it was disheartening for her when youths used to approach seeking jobs.
She was appraised about the long pending demand of the people of Chandigarh for raising the upper age limit eligibility.
She said, “I am feeling very elated to announce that the UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore has issued the notification of raising the upper age limit from 25 years to 37 years. With this larger avenues have been opened for youths of the city to apply for the jobs in UT Administration.”
She said that in the year 2004, Chandigarh Administration raised educational qualification for the posts of Junior Scale Stenographers, Steno Typists and Clerks from earlier qualification of 10+2 to Bachelor degree but the age limit for applying 3 for these posts remained 18-25 years. With the enhancement of educational qualification, it had become imperative on the part of Chandigarh Administration to enhance the upper age limit for entry into government service.
Chandigarh is a compact Administration with limited posts in the departments and consequently fewer opportunities for job seekers to get employment. Whenever the posts are advertised, major chunk of vacancies are grabbed by the candidates from Punjab and Haryana States, as they are also eligible to apply in UT.
On the other hand, job seekers of UT, availability of domicile certificate of concerned States. Moreover, various Unions and Federations of the employees of Chandigarh Administration have also been continually demanding for enhancement of upper age limit from 18-25 years to 18-37 years for government employment as prevalent in the state of Punjab. Although the issue was taken up by the Chandigarh Administration with the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, a number of times in the past, yet the latter never agreed to the same.
Kher said, “When the issue was brought to my knowledge, I took it up with the Home Minister of India and I was informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs does not have any role on the issue of enhancement of age limit. Accordingly, I took up the matter with the Administrator, Chandigarh and then after examining the issue the notification was issued.”
She added that this enhancement will provide plenty of avenues of employment to aspiring youths in Chandigarh Administration. This shall come into force with immediate effect.
