Chandigarh: Three days after receiving the complaint of theft of tyres, Crime branch team of Chandigarh Police have arrested four persons.Police have recovered 200 tyres from their possession worth Rs 10 lakhs.
Police have found that the accused were carrying stolen tyres in the hired car of Audit Department of Haryana.
The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, Harnek Singh alias Neka, Sunil Kumar alias Bhola and Santosh Kumar.
Pawan Kumar, DSP Crime Branch said that a complaint was received from Gurinder Pal Singh M/s Capital Tyres, Sector-21, Chandigarh who reported that some of his employees along with his other associates had stolen away approximately 480 tyres of different makes and sizes from his showroom.
Following the complaint, the police on September 17 laid a naka near Ziri Mandi Chowk, Sector-39 on a tip off and apprehended three accused along with a car bearing registration number (CH01-BD-5467) in which they were travelling.
While searching vehicle, 10 stolen tyres (four wheelers) of different companies were recovered from it. On further checking, a sticker of Government of India was found displayed in the front and rear of the car. The recovered tyres found to be stolen in. The car and stolen tyres were taken into possession vide memo and the accused persons were arrested.
During interrogation of the accused, it is found that accused are the employees of M/S Capital Tyres, Sector-21, Chandigarh and third accused Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi is a driver of the vehicle which is hired by the Audit Department Haryana.
Sukhi is friend of accused Harnek Singh alias Neka as he was previously residing in village-Burail in his neighbourhood. The accused persons also disclosed that they are stealing tyres from the shop of complainant since long and sold some of the tyres to one Santosh Kumar of scooter market, Sector-43. Upon this disclosure statement, accused Santosh Kumar was also arrested and 47 tyres were recovered from him.
Accused used to steal the tyres from showroom in the morning from back gate when the owner was busy in opening the shop. Sometimes, the owner handed over the keys to his employees while he had to take his ailing wife to hospital.
