Chandigarh: India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won his sixth Asian Tour title last week, enjoyed another solid result when he finished fifth at the BNI Indonesian Masters on Sunday.
Bhullar (66-73-70-67) posted a final round of five-under-67 at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club to end his campaign at 12-under-276, six shots back from the champion Poom Saksansin of Thailand. Chikkarangappa (70-67-73-67) was the second Indian in the top-6 at the US$750,000 Asian Tour event.
He too returned a 67 in the final round to claim tied sixth place at 11-under-277. It was Chikka’s second successive top-10 in Asia after last week’s tied ninth at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters. The 28-year-old Bhullar, the first round joint leader, found 14 fairways and 18 greens in regulation during his bogey-free round on Sunday, but was let down by a cold putter as he negotiated the greens in 31 putts. Gaganjeet signed off with a birdie-birdie finish to jump eight places from overnight tied 13th.
“A 62 was definitely out there. I’m pretty happy the way I played after winning last week. This course is one of my favourites on the Asian Tour.
“I’m glad that I was in contention during the week. There are a lot of positives I can take out from the last two weeks,” said Bhullar, who has now moved up one spot from 10th to ninth place on the Asian Tour Order
Chikkarangappa, like Bhullar, also produced an error-free final round that helped him leapfrog 16 places from his overnight tied 22nd. It was Chikka’s third top-10 of the season that moved him into 56th place on the money list thus raising his hopes of retaining his Asian Tour card.
Among the other Indians, Anirban Lahiri finished tied 30th at six-under-282, Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa were tied 36th at five-under-283, Chiragh Kumar, Rahil Gangjee and Himmat Rai were joint 43rd at four-under-284 while Jeev Milkha Singh was tied 52nd at one-under-287.
Shiv Kapur at four-over-292 and Abhinav Lohan at six-over-294, ended tied 63rd and 66th respectively.
