Chandigarh: Day-to-day Swachh Bharat campaign sees officials cleaning their offices and surroundings but still one may find heaps of garbages here and there. Interestingly, the staff of the DC’s office, and perhaps the DC himself, fail to see or feel the stinking heap of gabage at one side of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sector 17 Chandigarh.
The garbage has not been lifted so far, perhaps the concerned authorities are looking for a suitable site for the ‘malba.’ While talking to notaries and other people there, they said that ‘malba’ has been there unattended and unnoticed for long. They said that despite complaints, failure of Municipal Corporation (MC) to lift the garbage on time has exposed its negligence.
Hundreds of people including officials, pass through the site but no one has attempted to bring this lapse to the notice of the authorities concerned, said an advocate. “It is becoming unbearable to sit nearby it and do works for eight hours. It is an eye sore also,” he said. A notary said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched amid much fanfare in the city. However, nothing seems to have changed on the ground. If heaps of garbage were found near the DC office, then these could be found anywhere in the city.
