Derabassi: The old two-lane Ghaggar bridge near Bhankharpur on Ambala-Chandigarh Highway, having being closed for the past four days due to its repair, will be thrown open to all types of vehicular traffic from Monday morning. The bridge was opened for two-wheelers on Sunday evening.
The commuters, moving towards Ambala from Chandigarh, will heave a sigh of relief as they had been facing jam like situation on the highway during this period.
It has to be mentioned here that old Ghaggar bridge has been used by commuters, moving towards Ambala. It developed potholes on its couple of spans, following which bridge was closed completely for vehicular traffic on Wednesday night. Commuters, especially, moving towards Ambala, from Singhpura Chowk in Zirakpur to Bhankarpur Chowk, remained the most sufferers. They were compelled to move at snail’s space, consuming nearly half an hour to cover a stretch of two km.
Meanwhile, repair of bridge, started on Thursday, was completed on Friday. The engineering team cleaned the damaged portion and started filling concrete in the potholes while providing extra protection steps beneath the bridge.
‘The bridge would be thrown open for four-wheelers on Monday morning around 6 am while two-wheelers were being allowed on the bridge from Saturday evening., said GMR CRO Deepak Arora.
