Mohali: With 99.08 per cent marks Simrandeep Kaur of Khadoor Sahib has secured first position in the Punjab School Education Board’s (PSEB) Class X results, declared on Tuesday. Simranjit Kaur of Chheharta, Amritsar, and Arsh Malhotra of Jagraon bagged second and third positions with 98.92 per cent and 98.77 per cent marks respectively. Interestingly, in the 72.25 per cent result of the overall examination, which is better by 7.5 per cent of the previous year, the top three positions were again retained by the girls. According to information, a total of 3,42,330 students sat for the examination of whom 2,47,340 were declared passed.
The state has this time witnessed an increase in the number of students getting more than 80 per cent marks for the second consecutive year. This year, 39,041 students got 80 per cent or more marks which included 10,255 students studying in the government schools. So far as subject wise results are concerned, Punjabi got the top billing with the pass percentage remaining at 94.98 per cent. PSEB chairperson Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, while divulging details at a press conference here on Tuesday, said that a total of 355 students secured a place in merit and the student placed last in this merit list got 625 marks out of 650.
The cut out list of merit stopped at 96.18 per cent. In sports persons merit, Tanisha Sharma and Pushwinder Kaur of Ludhiana bagged joint first position with 100 per cent marks each. , Damanpreet Kaur of Ludhiana achieved second rank with 99.85 per cent marks and her class mate Mehakjot Singh secured third position with 99.69 per cent marks. Ludhiana achieved the top ranking in the merit list with 121 students. Bathinda and Hoshiarpur had 29 students each, Patiala had 28, Amritsar 16 and Barnala had 15 students in the merit list. The girl students also made their mark by stamping their authority in pass percentage whereas the result of rural area students was very good in matric like in Class XII.
The pass percentage of girls was 78.3 per cent and that of boys remained 67.43 per cent. The pass percentage of rural area students was 72.66 and that of urban area students was 71.46. The result of affiliated schools was 82.76 per cent, associated schools 70.46 per cent, government schools 69.03 per cent and aided schools 69.28 per cent. In the district wise pass percentage ranking, Tarn Taran secured first position, Gurdaspur second and Amritsar remained at third position.
