Chandigarh: In a further push to promote a cash-less society, the central government has asked all banks to provide mobile banking facility to all their customers by March 31 next, a senior bank official said on Monday.
A senior SBI official revealed that the government had asked the banks to enable all customers those have mobiles for mobile banking. In a bid apprise and aware their customers banks have been directed to run a nation wide campaign up to March 31 and to ensure that every customer who has a mobile phone has been enabled for mobile banking.
The electronics and information technology department of the government has issued such directions.
The Ministry has recently been given the mandate of spearheading the government’s drive to push digital payments.
Prior this NITI Aayog was asked for promotion of digital transactions. The IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will hold a meeting with all the bankers post Holi festival to ensure that targets are met.
He further said that earlier mobile banking was not a priority among the customers and maximum transactions were being done at bank’s counter.
