Chandigarh: Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator, V P Singh Badnore assumed his office at UT Secretariat on Wednesday. He spent almost a day at the office and interacted with administrative officers as well as operated daily affair from UT Secretariat.
During his interaction with media, Badnore said that he wants media to be decently critical. Badnore said, “I want that you must criticise me but with some decency. For me, critics are my best friends. Get me to know the city and come out with ideas and information enabling me to give the best to the residents.”
Badnore however had formal interaction with officers of administration and took stock of ongoing projects. He asked officers to pull up the socks and bring about development visible to people of Chandigarh.
He also asked the officers to chalk out annual plans for completing the tasks and fix responsibility of the officials for clearing stagnant projects and files. During meeting, a brief introduction was given by each officer regarding the post held and departments assigned.
Concluding the meeting Badnore desired that each officer prepares a brief presentation on best practices being implemented or to be introduced in their department.
Head of Departments were directed to prepare a detailed presentation on various activities of Department for briefing Administrator. They were also directed to project their plan of action keeping a target of 100 days, six months and long term plans for various programmes and achievements. Administrator further emphasised that any policy introduced by the Administration should have proper rules framed simultaneously, for effective and timely implementation.
Wants city to be smartest
UT Administrator shared his vision for “City Beautiful” for successive years on making Chandigarh not just smart, but smartest city. He further indicated that he wants Chandigarh to be developed as green city on the pattern of Copenhagen in Denmark and Bristol in Britain. He emphasized that city should assess the total carbon footprint and make an action plan of reduction of carbon footprint in accordance with the action plan made by certain developed cities in the world.
Badnore also shared that soon a suggestion box at UT Secretariat and an online portal for suggestions from the residents will be set up. He said this while answering about the tradition of holding ‘public darbaars’ as direct interaction with residents to redress their problems. He said that suggestions and problems uploaded online will be worked out according to their nature in stipulated time frame. He said that those not versed with computers can drop their suggestions and problems on drop box which will be taken care off.
