Panchkula:The problem of Panchkula residents to a catch a bus for another state from Chandigarh will soon be resolved as the government is all set with their new project to provide better transport facility for the residents. The city is all set to get its own Haryana Roadways bus depot with a fleet of 140 buses.
Within this month, the CM will lay the foundation stone of the bus stand. It will be constructed on 4 acres in Phase II of the Panchkula Industrial Area, according to local MLA Gian Chand Gupta. He added that buses will go to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and other neighboring states.
Meanwhile, a file for creating various posts of officials for the depot and bringing the ones already in Chandigarh has been sent to the authorities, which is likely to be approved soon. The depot will start functioning right after the laying of the foundation stone and routes, requirement of buses and other things will be decided soon after. According to the officials, once the depot starts functioning, the next step will be starting a local bus service. The Haryana Roadways, which has a fleet of 4,208 buses, operating from 23 depots and 13 sub-depots, covers around 12.57 lakh kilometres daily and carry around 12 lakh passengers per day. The bus depot for Panchkula was one of the promises made by the local MLA before the last Assembly elections. The same announcement was made by the CM, on April 24 last year.
