Chandigarh: Harmohan Dhawan, former Member Parliament and member election committee opened the front against BJP Chief Sanjay Tandon and predicted that under these circumstances, BJP will head towards losing the MC elections. The statement came in the wake of declaration of the 21 candidates for MC elections by BJP.
BJP declared the list of 21 candidates on Tuesday in which none of the Dhawan group loyalists had figured. The MC elections are slated for December 18 and the results are likely to be declared on December 20.
The inside rift in BJP is glaring up as a day after Sanjay Tandon declared the names of the candidates, Harmohan Dhawan and Satya Pal Jain have shown their resentment. Dhawan said that Tandon has hushed up in selecting the candidates.
Dhawan said, “The list announced in very weak. The announced candidates will fail to make the mark and BJP will suffer in the MC elections. We fear that BJP may not lose the MC elections with such a list of candidates and if it does lose, the onus lies on Tandon.” Tickets are even given to some of the candidates with criminal background, he said.
Whereas on the other hand Sanjay Tandon said, “We had announced to hold the election meeting but many of the members did not turn up. So the decision was taken with consensus of the present members.”
Countering this Dhawan said, “Tandon kept us in dark. In first meeting on November 20 it was decided that the names of the candidates will be finalised in next meeting to be held on November 25 but without informing us (me and Satya Pal Jain), Tandon held the meeting on November 22 and announced the names. I had told them that I have prior engagement at Delhi and Satya Pal Jain is away to Allahabad.” Dhawan further added that he will be holding a meeting with his workers to decide upon the next course of action.
