Ludhiana: Health department failed to do the survey of viral disease Chikungunya which was at peak in year 2016 as 248 cases were reported in Ludhiana, comparative to previous years. However, many people died due to this disease.
Residents and non- governmental organisations have requested the department to do the survey as there were numerous unreported cases in city. Moreover, health officials have claimed in past that many of the private hospitals are not co-operative as they do not send the record of Chikungunya patients which becomes difficult for them to check the areas.
Though, residents claimed that health department should take strict measures and action as Chikungunya is a chromic disease but department is least interested to do the needful for the people.
Gaganpreet Singh resident of Bhai Randhir Nagar said, “Several people were suffering from Chikungunya cases in year 2016. Health department only visits at places where cases were reported but there are many areas in the city where cases were not reported. I have also complained to different officers verbally to look into the matter and many cases were reported but no measures were being taken up”.
According to the data revealed by Dr. Ramesh, District Epidemiologist of health department said, “As many as 248 cases of Chikungunya were reported in 2016 and 755 cases of Dengue were reported in 2016”.
However, many of the people died due to this viral disease and health department have careless attitude towards this issue.
When contacted civil surgeon Rajeev Bhalla he said, “I will look into the matter properly and next time, we will ensure to spread awareness to do the needful for the same so that people would not suffer from any problem”.
