Chandigarh: Chandigarh heritage cultural property will go under hammer at auction to be held on September 10 at Oak Park, Illinois, USA. This will cause huge financial loss to exchequer of Union Territory of Chandigarh apart from damaging the prestige and heritage tag of the city.
The letter in this regard has been forwarded to CBI by local advocate Ajay Jagga. Earlier, also heritage furniture worth crores from Chandigarh has been auctioned in USA, France, Germany and other countries in Europe.
Jagga in his letter to CBI stated that auctions are going on regularly and now the next auction is in USA on September 10 at an estimate price of about $ 55000 amounting to Rs 37 lakh.
Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967 pair of stools, library chair, set of six round stools, set of three office table desk-bookcase, six armchairs, student desk, and an office Armchair. All such furniture belongs to Pierre Jeanneret.
Jagga further mentioned in his letter that, ‘After a series of communication to Chandigarh office of CBI, about auction of Indian heritage items in USA, France, Germany, I approached the Interpol wing of CBI and then on April 25 they issued a letter to Chandigarh office of CBI vide letter no. AMERICAS/1/125/2016/7160 dated 25/4/2016 for taking further action on information regarding the auction of heritage items.
