Chandigarh: UT Administration is all set to host Heritage festival at Capitol Complex. UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore will be inaugurating three day festival on September 6.
Badnore had recently directed UT Administration to make efforts in promoting the tourism in city. Capitol Complex attained Heritage status from UNESCO in July this year thus empowering UT to display UNESCO logo at the complex.
UT will be organising three day heritage festival at Capitol Complex with a view to showcase the world the heritage tag attained by complex. While divulging about the facts, Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said, “We will be organising three day heritage festival at Capitol Complex. The idea is to attract more and more tourists. The entire complex will be decked up with fancy lights and special lighting will be done at Open Hand. It will be festival like atmosphere at the complex.”
UT has called for expression of interests by empanelled companies for lighting system as well as other activities to be undertaken during the festival.
Capitol Complex will witness night lighting for which special meeting of the companies for making presentations will be held on August 31 at UT Secretariat.
UT will also carry out the retrofitting of buildings and will carry out the preservation and conservation of cluster of buildings forming Capitol Complex. According to the norms set by UNESCO and listed by UT in the dossier, Capitol Complex is to be conserved in its original form.
“The heritage tag means that it has to be conserved in its original form failing which city may complex may lose status but we will not let this happen,” said Aggarwal. Buildings at Capitol Complex will undergo structure repairs of concrete beams, pillars and other parts as per the original plans prepared by Le Corbusier. The factors to be looked upon are functional utilities, landscaping, visitor’s compatibility, maintenance management and disaster management.
