Chandigarh: Parwanoo Police have arrested three persons for murdering gangster-turned-politician Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’ of Fazilka. The three arrested have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, Devinder Singh and Amarinder Singh. Two of them are from Patiala while one belongs to Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, as learnt. Parwanoo Police are expected to produce them in the court on Wednesday. Confirming the development Superintendent of Police, Solan, Anjum Ara said the trio was being interrogated.
On being asked about the recovery of weapons and the motive behind murder, Ara said: “It is being questioned from the accused.” Sources in the Himachal Police disclosed that for it being a high-profile case, the state top cop was of the view that things should be revealed at least at the ADGP level. It is expected that police would share the facts on Wednesday. Rocky was shot dead near Timber Trail in Parwanoo on April 30, when he was returning from Solan after spending a night with his friends there. At the time of attack, Rocky was travelling in his Toyota Fortuner along with his cousin Harpreet Singh and the driver Parampal Singh aka Pala Brar of Kotkapura, who too sustained two bullet injuries.
The FIR registered at Parwanoo police station carried the sections 302, 307 and 34 of the IPC against unidentified persons. Police have got a video footage showing the assailants had come in a Mahindra SUV 5OO and also found two bikers doing the recee. Initially, the Himachal Police were also suspicious about the role of Rocky’s official gunmen as they were travelling in a vehicle following his SUV and there was no firing from their side. Rocky’s killing triggered a ‘credit’ war among the gangs on Facebook as various notorious elements claimed it to be their handiwork terming it revenge.
If one gang was boasting it the revenge of Gurshaheed Singh Shera Khubban’s police encounter in Bathinda, another group was of the view point that he was killed for his alleged role in his mentor Prabhjinder Singh Dimpy’s murder that took place about a decade back at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh. During investigation, Himachal Police had learnt that the various gangsters were posting such comments from sitting inside Punjab jails. Ashamed Punjab police then conducted raids in the state prisons and recovered nearly 70 mobile phones, with many also having internet facility, along with various other objectionable articles from the prisoners across the state.
