Panchkula: After 40 years of its inception, Panchkula hardly has anything to boast of when it comes to its industrial development. Once a hub of industrial activities, with the presence of ancillary units, the city’s industrial area today is crying for attention. Following this, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) is all set to initiate with its new project of giving the industrial sector of Barwala a new step to rise.
There is around 557 acres of land in which around 527 industrial plots are to be allotted.
As per the plans of the HSIIDC, the department has now proposed a new project of setting up of another phase of industrial area at Barwala in Panchkula district following which auction and allotment of several sites will be carried out soon. According to the officials of the department, in the upcoming Phase II of the industrial sector, the HSSIDC has prepared all the procedures of making online auctions of industrial plots.
It has also been learnt that a total of four industrial sites in this upcoming phase II of the Barwala industrial sector has already been allotted to various firms that includes a private press company among others. HSIIDC executive engineer Rohit Kanwar said that the work regarding the upcoming project is in full swing and the department has already finalised many things for the same. ‘’There is around 557 acre of land in which around 527 industrial plots are to be allotted. The plots will soon be auctioned and planning of the same is under process,’’ Kanwar.
On the other side, there is around 350 acre of land at industrial area, Phase I in which a total of 335 plots are being set up. Out of these 335, 327 plots have been allotted whereas 8 plots are yet to be auctioned soon. However out of these 327, several companies and firms are being working on 200 plots.
All said and done, but of the hundreds of industrial plots in Barwala industrial estate, majority of them are lying locked. Except for few percentage of old industries, most of the plots are being used as godowns or have been illegally converted into sales outlets in violation of rules. Industrialists say in the absence of infrastructure, tax holidays, concessions, Panchkula industry has largely migrated to Parwanoo and Baddi industrial area of Himachal Pradesh.
