Panchkula: Following repeated complaints of dilapidated condition of roads in trans-Ghaggar sectors by residents, the authorities have finally initiated the process of repairing potholes in the internal roads of the sectors along with recarpeting of roads in Sector 23.
Repeated requests by the people living in the trans-Ghaggar sectors have been made for the past few months to improve the quality of roads following which recarpeting and repair of the roads in these areas started on Wednesday.
Many of the sectors’ inner roads are in a state of utter decay, subjecting residents to unending hardships. Wornout roads, which have just a layer of dirt and gravel, don’t simply cause damage to two-wheelers and four-wheelers, they pose great threat to the lives of commuters.
Over the past eight months a few main roads were recarpeted by HUDA and that the Sector 23 roads near the NIFT and dumping ground. However, a majority of roads, including all internal roads, offer bumpy ride to commuters. The roads leading from Sector 24 to Sector 3 Tau Devi Lal Stadium is in a very bad condition with potholes in the whole passage.
K S Ahlawat, Executive Engineer, HUDA, said, ‘’A complete investigation on the part of the contractors and other facts will be scrutinised to check as to how the condition of the road deteriorated in this short passage of time.’’
‘’We have issued notice to all the three contractors. The work has been initiated and the contractors have been directed to recarpet these roads within a week,’’ added HUDA XEN. Also there was a condition in the tender that the road should not break up to a minimum period of 3 years but despite that it degraded.
