Chandigarh: “To make sure that no women is left of breast cancer screening, we need initiatives like ‘Asha Jyoti’: Women’s Health Care Mobile Outreach Program” started by the department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGIMER,” said Minister of State for Health and Family welfare, Government of India Anupriya Patel.
On Wednesday Anupriya Patel visited PGIMER to inaugurated fourth Annual Conference of the Breast Imaging Society of India (BISI), held at PGIMER, Chandigarh began on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Anupriya Patel in her speech highlighted the increasing incidence of the breast cancer and related deaths in India due to lack of awareness regarding the breast screening examinations and presentation in the advanced stages.
Prof. N. Khandelwal, Chairman, Organizing Committee stressed upon the various challenges related to the early diagnosis of breast cancer and other breast diseases including the large volume of the patients, inadequate imaging facilities and lack of availability of trained dedicated radiologists in the field of breast imaging.
Dr. Smriti Hari, Secretary of BISI presented the annual report of the society mentioning about the various CMEs and workshops conducted during the last one year to promote uniformity and quality of the Breast imaging in India.
There were sessions on the imaging of the breast at the mammography level and various image-guided interventions in breast disorders. Dr. Michael Linver, who holds the chair position in BIRADS ultrasound subcommittee, American College of Radiology and is the director of the mammography, X-Ray associates of New Mexico talked about basic challenges that are faced by radiologists in their day-to-day reporting in mammography and how to tackle them.
Dr. Jennifer Harvey, Professor of Radiology, Vice-Chair of Development, University of Virginia, delivered a lecture on the “Art of Triangulation” in the breast lesions for their correct localization in mammography.
A two hour session was dedicated to image-guided breast interventions which included Ultrasound guided core biopsy, Stereotactic breast biopsy and MRI Guided interventions.
This was followed by hands-on workshops for the delegates for these interventions in the evening.
