Chandigarh: Teej Festival was organised by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh at Green Belt, near Gaudiya Math, Sector 20-A on Sunday. Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher was the chief guest on the occasion.
People from in and around the neighborhood also participated in the function, enjoying all the events of the fest and got a chance to interact with Kirron Kher. “I am so much happy to attend this festival and see Kirron Kher for the first time,” said Kamaljeet Kaur, local resident of the sector with excitement.
Chandigarh Mayor Arun sood welcomed the MP with a bouquet. As soon as she entered the grounds of Green Belt, she took to the swings and The Mayor also joined her. The programme began with ‘luddi’ folk dance. ‘Jugni’ song was sung by Paramjit Padda, a folk singer, along with his team. Haryanvi folk dance was also performed by girls from Haryana and at last Parkash Nath gave a mesmerising performance by playing his flute.
The function also saw BJP councillor Dr Ruby Abahram and Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon.
Chandigarh Mayor Arun Sood thanked and welcomed all guests, esspecially Kirron Kher for attending the festival by taking out time from her busy schedule. Shifting his focus from the function to talking about women empowerment, he said that they are working for women empowerment to encourage them to live their life with freedom.” Kirron Kher said, “This is my first time celebrating Teej as MP as for the last two years I have not been able to attend the function due to political reasons. I thank all the guests who welcomed me with open hearts.” She also said that she was feeling happy to come here and be a part of this festival.
Kher also added that she get to know that some of the Youth Congress party workers were protesting outside the presmises hwere the function was taking place before she came, which shows that how Congress is playing mind games. She requested the youth to focus on their studies and career instead of protesting on useless things.
Protest has been done on rate tax free house, increasing rates of vegetables and other things.
