Congress councillors boycott the event, SAD, nominated councillors attend meet amidst protest
Chandigarh: Exceeding all reasonable bounds, Municipal Corporation (MC) Mayor Arun Sood in order to take credit inaugurated incomplete new assembly hall on Monday. Mayor also held MC house meet in new hall with not so important six agenda points.
The new assembly hall has been inaugurated at fifth floor of the MC building and MC has spent approximately Rs 1.25 crores on renovation of the hall. All the three floors will see an approximate ewxpense of Rs 4.25 crores on renovation.
All the councillors were seen patting each other’s backs for holding MC house meet in new assembly hall irrespective of the fact that the workers were seen pasting the floor and fixing sides of sofa set where councillors were supposed to sit.
Interestingly the house meet scheduled for 12 noon was also postponed for two hours and rescheduled to be held on 2 pm and then for further half-an-hour as the workers were giving final touches to sofa sets and flooring.
On the other hand, Mayor himself declared on microphone cautioning the members not to use microphone switch more than five times as it may get hang and closed down. Mayor said, “It is historic moment to hold MC house meet in new assembly hall on Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and Children’s day. This is the only motive to hold MC house meet on a national holiday. Those councillors who are not present in the house are being missed.”
Surprisingly, the six agenda points tabled were not of much urgency and all nine Congress councillors who boycotted MC house meet said that it is dictatorship of Mayor to force upon inaugurations just to take credit.
Congress also alleged that Mayor also forced the workers to work day and night so that he may be able to hold the house meet just ahead of the imposition of model code of conduct.
One of the BJP councillor, who left the house after marking her attendance said, it is sad that mayor is running the show on his whims and fancies.
He is holding a meeting just to take credit during his tenure as conduct will be in force from Tuesday.
