Chandigarh: In a haste to register his name engraved on the foundation stone and inauguration of a project, just on eve of imposition of model code of conduct, Mayor see off seven inaugurations in a day. In past one week Mayor has inaugurated dozens of parks, community centres, green belts and laid foundation stone of more than one dozen projects in the city.
Mayor went on to inaugurate the Biogas Plant, Industrial Area Phase-I, after which he flagged off 10 Dumper Placers before inaugurating the new assembly hall at MC building.
Later in the day he inaugurated the provision of Signage from Sector 16, Chandigarh and then went on to Start the Rotary Library, at Community Centre, Sector 27 before laying the foundation Stone of Community Centre, Sector 50. Mayor inaugurates Biomethenation Plant at Ind. area Phase-I
Arun Sood, Mayor of Chandigarh inaugurated the Biomethenation Plant at Industrial Area, Phase-I in presence of B. Purushartha, Commissioner, Satish Kainth, area councillor, other councillors, officers of MC and area residents.
While addressing the gathering Mayor said that this plant will help Chandigarh to process the wet garbage and produce approximately 30 KW of electricity from it. Stressing upon the need for segregation of garbage in door to door level, he said that segregation of dry waste and wet garbage is the most important for the success of any kind of processing plant. He said that organic and wet waste is the main cause of foul smell and growth of various diseases.
He said that the Municipal Corporation had signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay for the installation of two 5 MT Bio-Methanation Plants.
Sood, Mayor also launched the mechanical sweeping concept in Chandigarh. The formal work has been started from Trikona park, B Block, Sector 38 (West). According to the mechanical sweeping wall to wall sweeping will be done on daily basis and grass from road gullies will also be removed by the firm.
