Chandigarh: Municipal Corporation (MC) will be holding a meeting on September 6 to derive out the methodology of assessing the salvage to be paid for the garbage processing plant. MC is at logger heads with Jaypee group over payment of the salvage at present.
MC after terminate the contract with Jaypee , decided to pay the salvage to get the possession of the plant. However Jaypee is now demanding Rs 30 crore value of the plant which MC is not ready to consider.
The meeting will be held with valuer and the committee constituted which will work out the plans to take possession from Jaypee group and hand over to the next company routed through the Jaypee group. The valuer will assess the salvage of the plant which will be paid to Jaypee before taking the final possession of the garbage plant.
Then MC will negotiate the salvage cost paid to Jaypee with the new company and if the company agree to pay back the salvage cost to MC only then MC will agree to pay the tipping fee, said MC Commissioner Baldeo Purushartha.
“Otherwise MC will not pay the tipping fee to the new company as well. The action came in the wake of the orders of NGT to sort out the matter and submit report forth it within this week. We had replied to NGT that if Jaypee agree to upgrade the plant to 100 percent processing plant then MC can negotiate over paying the tipping fee. But as Jaypee refused to upgrade the plant, we have decided to pay the salvage and get it reimbursed from the new company,” said Purushartha.
Sources said that even the new company is hesitant to pay such a hefty amount to Jaypee as they will have to spend nearly Rs 100 crore on taking over completely. The new company had proposed that they would be able to give only a reasonable amount and not such a hefty amount.
Mayor Arun Sood said that it will be decided in the meeting and not even a single penny will be paid over and above the assessment made by the valuer.
