Chandigarh: Municipal Corporation (MC) will ensure the streamlining of the parkings during the festival season. Mayor Arun Sood said that MC in collaboration with UT Traffic police will not allow parking of vehicles on road sides and in haphazard
Mayor said, “To ensure smooth flow of traffic in markets during the Dushehra and Diwali celebrations, MC will work in tandem with UT police to ensure smooth flow on vehicles. We will not allow any types of haphazard parking of vehicles and over loading of the parking lots in various markets. We will ensure to keep the free space for fire tenders to move in and out in case of fire incident.”
He also said that MC will spend Rs 30 lakh for illuminating the defunct street, parks and market lights by Diwali. He said that MC may extend the target to Rs 1 crore for repairing and installation of new lights. “We have already issued tenders worth Rs 30.7 lakh to get the work done,” said Mayor.
He also directed the concerned engineers for preparing an inventory of all the street lights including polls, lamps and other necessary fittings etc. within two days. He also asked them to prepare area based list of faulty electricity points, damaged wires and fused lamps.
The MC will also arrange for required manpower, machinery on hire through outsourcing to complete the job before Diwali. The mayor said that priority would be given to the residential areas including V-5 road, V-4 road, neighbourhood and big parks, Markets of the city and street lights on V-3 roads of the city.
