Chandigarh: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation with an aim to achieve 100 per cent Open Defecation-Free (ODF) status for city by October 2 has initiated intensive community triggering by educating and motivating people not to defecate in the open. In this regard, MC will kicks off a campaign on September 25 (Sunday).
Commissioner MC shall kick start the ODF trigger campaign at railway station on Sunday morning along with Joint Commissioner Captain Manoj Khatri whereas Joint Commissioner Virender Chaudhary will be there with Subhash Chawla at Sector 25 Dhanas and Hardeep Singh Deputy Mayor at Butraila Sector 41 early morning to kick start the campaign.
As per the guidelines of Government of India, Chandigarh is implementing Swachh Bharat Mission with a goal of achieving clean city. The city plans to be Open Defecation-Free by October 2, 2016. In continuation of the triggering activities carried out in April, where 14 wards were declared Open Defecation- Free, quarterly intensive community triggering was conducted for the remaining 12 wards 5, 6, 8, 11,12, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 by the 12 teams comprising officials of MOH wing, Engineering wing and Self Help Groups.
During this drive, the team members made sincere efforts to mobilised people to avoid open defecation and to use toilets.
