Chandigarh:Municipal Corporation (MC) is all set to declare all its 26 parking lots as Smart Parkings and has also decided to invite expression of interest at the reserve price of Rs 4 crore. The agenda point will come up for discussion at Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) meeting slated for March 16.
The MC has decided to let out all the parking lots including the Multilevel Parking to a single company for managing the parking under Smart Parking system. Recently MC has also accorded its approval for hiking the parking fee from Rs 5 to Rs 10 for four-wheelers and Rs 2 to Rs 5 for two-wheelers.
It must be mentioned here that delay in converting all the parking lots to Smart Parkings by issuing the contract to a single company was because the parking lot contractor’s mover High Court challenging the MC’s decision but the petition was dismissed.
Joint Commissioner Captain Manoj Khatri said, “We have advised to call the EOI for Smart Parkings to be issued to a single company. The agenda point will come up for discussion during the F&CC meeting slated for March 16.” Last year Municipal Corporation (MC) received expression of interest from three companies willing to manage the parking lots as per the Smart parking concept. MC received response after slashing the reserve price from Rs 3.4 crore to Rs 2 crore.
After failing to attract bidders for converting all parking’s into the smart parking, MC has reduced the reserve price from Rs 3.4 crore to Rs 2 crore. Earlier only single company had bid for the concept.
MC had planned to convert all the 26 parking lots into Smart Parkings by letting the operations out to a single private company. The company will be responsible for the proper marking of the parking spaces separately for the two and four-wheelers. Secondly company will fix CCTV cameras to track the movement of the vehicles in parking lot and also will be responsible for loss or damage of the vehicle.
The entire parking slips will be issued by e-ticketing machines and no hand written parking slips will be issued. E-ticketing machines will be pre-feded with the parking fee and there will be no chance of overcharging.
