Chandigarh: Mullanpur Garibdass village is facing shortage of sufficient funds because of which the panchayat is unable to appoint required number of safai karamcharis.
The village has witnessed growth in population and it has touched the 15,000 mark in the last few.
The leakage of the sewage pipelines is the common sight in the Saini moholla (area) of Mullanpur. “Farmers broke sewage pipelines to utilise water for their crops, mostly those who are not having tube-well or proper water source for farming which leads to open flow of water on the streets of the area.
“Besides, inhabitants of the areas use to dispose garbage into drain which is the main reason behind the blockage. After every two days sweepers cleans the drainage system but again the same situation arises and cause problem to the commuters and nearby residents” said Jagdish Rai Jund, sarpanch of the village.
The locals said that they were facing this problem from the past two months and many times we called panchayat to discuss the issue but no action has been taken yet. Standing drain water on the road clearly shows the negligence by the authority, this may lead to the various diseases like diarrhoea etc.
Gurwinder Singh, a commuter said, “This is my daily route to home and I have seen motorcyclists slipping most of the times on this road. I would request authorities to renovate the road as soon as possible so that accidents could be avoided. Moreover, more sweepers should be recruited so that cleanliness should be maintained in the village”.
