Chandigarh: The Narcotics Control Bureau of Chandigarh have busted a Uttar Pradesh (UP) native while he was allegedly possessing 2.520 kilograms of opium.
According to NCB officials, the accused has been identified as Ompal a resident of village Bebni, Post Office Naugawan Bhiramnan, Police Station Aliganj, Tehsil Aonla, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Kaustubh Sharma, Zonal Director Chandigarh said that the NCB team had received information that the accused person is involved in drug smuggling during the last six months and supplying Opium in Chandigarh and Mohali region and this is his 2nd attempt to supply Opium in the region.
Acting on this, the NCB team laid a naka near Airport, Chandigarh and arrested Ompal Singh when he is trying to smuggle Opium from Uttar Pradesh. The contraband was kept in small travelling bag which was recovered from the accused Ompal.
Sharma added that the NCB teams are keeping vigil over the drug peddling in Chandigarh and neighbouring states in the region. This is the 15th seizure during this year Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh. This is the 5th Opium seizure by NCB during the year, he added.
