Chandigarh:Barring certain Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, almost every MLA either greeted Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh or shook hands with him on day-one of the Punjab Assembly Session that started in a lively atmosphere here on Friday. Soon after taking his seat in the house, Capt Amarinder Singh shared light moments with his MLAs.
While CM and nine members of his council of ministers were sitting in the front row, the seasoned MLAs were holding the seats in the middle. The first timers and new faces remained the back ‘benchers’.
The leaders of opposition HS Phoolka, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Kanwar Sandhu and Aman Arora of AAP, were joined by Simarjit Singh and Balwinder Singh, leaders of Lok Insaf Party (LIP) on the front row.
Veteran Akali leaders and former ministers Ajit Singh Kohar and Bikran Singh Majithia, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, NK Sharma, and Dinesh Singh Babbu and Som Prakash, both BJP MLAs, shared the front row with the Akalis. Parimder Singh Dindsa, former finance minister was occupying seat in the middle-order.
Almost every Congress lawmaker and SAD MLA from Dera Bassi Narinder Kumar Sharma sought Capt Amarinder Singh’s blessing by touching his feet while heading towards the dais to take oath.
A majority of AAP and SAD MLAs, however, did not greet the CM. A majority of Congress and SAD leaders met AAP MLA Kanwar Sandhu and expressed grief over the sad demise of his son.
After taking oath, Capt Amarinder Singh left the house at 3.22 pm. Senior-most cabinet ministers including Brahm Mohindra, Mapreet Singh Badal, Charanjit Singh Channi, Aruna Chaudhary and Navjot Singh Sidhu also shared their view points by sharing a seat with Capt Amarinder Singh before his left.
The LIF party MLAs Bains brother greeted and hugged Sidhu and Pargat Singh. The four were founder members of Awaaz-e-Punjab, a political front that died before birth.
While all other MLAs and CM took oath in Punjabi, Aruna Chaudhary, Education Minister, and Ramanjit Singh Sikki took oath in English.Pawan Kumar Adiya, MLA from Sham Chaurasi, was administered oath by the pro-tem speaker Rana Kanwar Pal.
