Chandigarh: Northern Railways this time has given no space for the special trains to cater the festival rush. The railways have not provided additional Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters to cater the rush for the forthcoming festival of Holi.
However the railways during the Holi festival season have been operating additional UTS counters have been opened at Saharanpur, Jagadhri, Ambala Cantt, Rajpura, Sirhind, Chandigarh and Bathinda stations.
Nor there has been no display of Summer Special Trains at PRS locations and neither any regular announcement is being made at stations. There has been no Intensive Ticket Checking is done at sections of division to curb irregular and without ticket travellers.
Whereas with the festive season round the corner, the rush in the trains have already started increasing and as per the reservation charts many trains have been running with waiting list exceeding their capacity.
But the Northern Railways is yet to announce special trains to cater the festival rush from Chandigarh railway station.
The railway authorities said that they have added few rakes in the existing long distance trains to cater the rush but till date augmentation of passenger carrying capacity for long-distance trains seem to have provided little or no relief to passengers as long waiting lists and unavailability of confirmed seats/berths in most of the trains has indicated backlog.
As major festival of holi draw near, thousands of migrants, settled in city beautiful, are keen to visit their native places to spend the festivals with their families.
Chandigarh Station Superintended TP Singh said, “The festival rush has already started which is visible from past few days. Some of the trains are over booked and running into waiting list. Train like Kalka-Sai Nagar, Nanded Sahib Express, Shatabdi Express and long distance trains have about 15 to 30 days waiting.”
As per the online rail reservation information, the Kalka-Shirdi Express has 100 plus waiting list till November 12 and Nanded Sahib Express is full with waiting up to 60 seats till the end of this month. Chandigarh-Lucknow Sadbhavna express has around 200 waiting list and is booked till November 23, as per the IRCTC online reservation portal.
