Personnel to be on toes to tackle any untoward incident in city
Chandigarh: While the ‘City Beautiful’ Chandigarh will be enjoying the festival of lights and crackers on Sunday with their dear ones, the cops of Chandigarh Police and the Fire fighters of Chandigarh Fire Department will be geared up on their toes to tackle with any untoward incident in the city.
According to sources, almost 1200 cops will be on special duty of Diwali on Sunday looking after management of traffic and law and order in city, while 230 firemen will also be on duty to tackle any fire incidents take place.
The police and the fire department have held the leave schedules of cops due to Diwali, however leaves have been granted to those in real emergency.
Eish Singhal, SP Traffic and Security said “Our police force has been on special duty since last three days and are looking after arrangements for traffic management to avoid traffic chaos and to keep an eye of the miscreants in the markets and other public places”.
The important institutions in city like the High Court, District Court are all under high police security on Diwali. Special police teams are deployed for the same. We have not cancelled leaves of the cops, those in urgency to take a leave have also been granted the leaves, added Singhal.
On the other hand, the fire department has also held the leaves of all the 230 employees. The fire personnel deputed in the office of Chief Fire Officer and fire branch have also been deputed for duty on October 30.
More cops and 40 nakas in city
Around 1200 khakee men of UT police will look after the smooth celebration of Diwali in Chandigarh. Around 1088 NGO’s and OR’s along, 27 Inspector/SHO’s, 6 DSP’s and around 100 IRB personnel have been deployed in the city. The police deployment will continue till Diwali till 11 pm. Meanwhile, a fire men on duty said “It is our duty to be serve the people. Our fire men will be present if any untoward incident takes place”.
Fire Dept Prepared
According to a fire official, fire tenders will be stationed permanently have already been on toes at Sadar Bazar, Sector 19-C, Grain Market, Sector 26, Hallo Majra, Burail, Patel Market, Sector 15, Sector 22 near Hotel Aroma and main market, Sector 40, in Chandigarh. On the eve of diwali, around 120 firemen will be present on duty on different spots.
Also, the officials have been directed to check defects and repair the water boosters immediately. Not only this, the stall owners selling crackers were also directed to have ‘first aid fire fighting equipment’, that is 20-25 sandbags and proper water arrangement.
