Chandigarh: The inside rift in the Chandigarh Congress come to fore as no name from the former Union Minister Manish Tewari group figures in the list of the Chandigarh Pradesh Election Committee issued by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday. The committee has been constituted to convene the MC elections.
In a major jolt to the Manish Tewari group, all the 11 members figuring in the committee belong to the former Union Minister and MP Pawan Kumar Bansal group.
The committee comprise of Pradeep Chhabra, President, Chandigarh TCC, Pawan Kumar Bansal, former Union Minister, Pawan Sharma, Executive Member, Former Vice President, Bhupinder Singh Badheri, Former Senior Deputy Mayor, Vice President CTCC, Vinod Sharma, General Secretary CTCC, Hakam Sarhadi (SC), Member Executive CTCC, Dr Irshad Hassan, Special Invites, Ex Secretary CTCC, President, Mahila Congress, Chief organizer, Sewa Dal, President,Youth Congress and President, NSUI.
Asha Kumari, convener Chandigarh Pardesh Congress Committee during her recent statement while addressing the Congress convention on November 5 had said that Manish Tewari has no role to play in Chandigarh politics.
He belongs to Punjab politics.
While reacting to the declaration, senior Congress leader Chandermukhi Sharma strongly revoked the decision and said, “This committee is totally one sided and has not given proper representation to the various factions of the party. The members of this committee are mere puppets in the hands of Pawan Kumar Bansal.”
They shot a letter to Sonia Gandhi alleging that, ‘Senior Congress leaders have strongly opposed the newly formed Pradesh Election Committee which was constituted for the selection and screening of congress candidates for the MC elections.
Senior Congress leaders said this committee is totally one sided and has not given proper
representation to the various factions of the party. Senior leaders said that even they have completely ignored BB Behl who had served as President of Chandigarh
Territorial Congress Committee for more than 15 years.
Pawan Bansal who lost 2014 general elections by a margin of 69,642 votes solely because of his Mama-Bhanja image which the people of India had seen live on the television in 2013.’
Chandermukhi Sharma along with other supporters demanded that at least three members from their group must be included in the committee.
Sharma was flanked by Principal Gurbachan Singh, JN Shastri, Jagat Sharma, Kulbir Singh, Ravinder Singh Tyagi, Baljit Singh Billa, Wasim Mir, Aman Slatch,
and Shiv Lal Lodhi.
