Chandigarh station to get 1 MW solar power plant
The DRM said that all the 17 railway stations falling on the Kalka-Shimla heritage route would be made solar powered. Chandigarh railway station would get 1 MW solar power generation plant. This was stated by Dinesh Kumar while reviewing the project progress works during a press conference on Wednesday.
The DRM said the Railways had cleared the project of installation of solar power generation units at all the 17 railway stations falling on the Kalka-Shimla route. The decision had been taken under the renewable energy resources mission of the Central Government.
Dinesh Kumar said, “The Railways have decided to make the station self-sustained for energy generation. All the 17 stations on the Kalka-Shimla route as well the Chandigarh railway station would be made solar powered. Chandigarh will get 1 MW power generation unit, whereas the railway stations on the Kalka-Shimla route will be made solar powered as per the capacity requirements. The entire project will be on PPP module where the private companies will be entitled to use the surplus energy generated at the solar power units. For the Kalka-Shimla route, the Railways has sanctioned a budget of Rs 52 lakh.”
The DRM also said that the 1 MW solar power generation unit at Chandigarh railway station would be installed near the railway yard and the entire station would be drawing energy from it. The surplus energy or the saved electricity would be used by the private company.
