Chandigarh: Despite an area of 277 acres, the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is still facing a parking problem which is turning out to be a big issue for thousands of daily visitors here on Sunday.
One of the top-ranking hospitals of the country now seems to be creating problem for the patients who come for treatment as they have to find proper parking space in the public parking.
Many lives are put at risk because those accompanying patients have to struggle for hours to find parking space and again the same situation recurs when leaving the parking due to congested parking lots near the OPD and research block that leads to huge jams for four-wheelers.
Abhijit Chatterjee, a patient visited the PGI for treatment, said, “I am suffering from pulmonary disease and came alone for treatment. Meanwhile, doctors recommended me some tests from the laboratory in Nehru Hospital which is quite far and with no choice left, I walked for 1 km (approx) and came back.
It took near about an hour to take my car out from the parking.”
After charging Rs 10 each from the visitor and rather than providing proper convenience to the visitors, the authorities are allowing a number of four-wheelers even after parking lot gets full to make money.
This is the reason behind the problems among commuters.
Some people leave their cars on hand break which creates problems for other cars to move.
