Chandigarh: Stepping up smart move to keep the city under vigilance, the Chandigarh Police will now be using Vahan application to track every vehicle whether it’s the original one or not. The Police Control Room PCRs have been asked to use the app thoroughly. The web-enabled application Vahan has been developed by Road Transport Ministry which will get you more details about vehicles and drivers.
National Informatics Centre (NIC) has developed the SMS and web-based applications after the Transport Ministry received several queries about genuineness of vehicles and also drivers. Meanwhile, though the app has been developed for everybody but the Chandigarh Police are not behind utilising the technology.
SSP Chandigarh Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “The app is very useful. The cops in the PCRs have been guided to use the app and get the verification of any vehicle in a smarter and easier way”.
Each PCR vehicle has been guided to check a minimum of five vehicles every day and they can even check any vehicle on suspicion through the application.
With this the cops will track the vehicles through their registration numbers. If the registration number does not match with the vehicle, the IO of the local area will be called immediately by the PCR team and the concerned official will take further action if required, added the SSP.
How the app can be used
For getting simple details about registration certificates (RCs), one just needs to send an SMS ‘Vahan’ with vehicle RC no to 7738299899. The SMS sender will get a reply with the details. While buying a used car or any other vehicle, you can now check its genuineness simply by sending an SMS to 7738299899 from your mobile phone.
