Chandigarh: Acting swiftly on a complaint of Subhash Chander, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh, the Hoshiarpur police have booked five persons including an NRI groom Taranjit Singh, his father Ravinder Singh, mother Tajinder Kaur, maternal uncle Pappy and one more persons Manpreet Singh.
A case under Section 498-A of the IPC and provisions of the Dowry Act has been registered against them at Mukerian police station.
Sources in the police, however, disclosed that all the accused had been detained soon after receiving a complaint against them on Sunday evening.
The police have no shown their arrest in the official records as yet.
A car used by the groom and his relatives in the crime has also been impounded by the police.
On Sunday afternoon, Subhash Chander had complaint to the police against the groom and his family members for deserting his daughter in want of dowry and cash. He also had complained that the groom and his relatives had also left the marriage ceremony midway and threatened them of dire consequences.
Subhash Chander had fixed the marriage of his daughter with Taranjit Singh, an Italy-based NRI son of Ravinder Singh, a resident of Hazipur Brara Colony, almost six months ago. The marriage was to be solemnised at a Goraya marriage palace near Mukerian on Sunday.
