Chandigarh: Congress student wing, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) of university campus on Thursday split as its campus president has shifted loyalties to the National Students’ Union of India-Students’ Front (NSUI-SF). As a result, the NSUI was forced to announce its election panel again for the coming Panjab University Central Students Council (PUCSC) election. The NSUI has managed to win 2013 and 2014 elections. But in 2015 elections they failed to grab even a single seat because of groupism in its rank and file. The situation seems to be worse this year because the rebel group has launched a new organisation called NSUISF on august 24 and are in the fray of contesting elections this year.
Earlier this month, there was a visible rift between the groups of the NSUI and this rift came to the fore recently as the student leaders fought with each other at public places in the campus.
Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi has re-launched the its student wing in October 2012. But differences cropped up among its leaders within four years of its re-launching.
Hardeep Singh Lalli, a senior NSUI leader, who is supporting the newly launched organisation, says, “It all started when I was the party president and Divyashu Budhiraja filed nomination for president under my guidance. The other group tried in every possible way to let me down but he won. After that it became intense and now it is open to all that what shape it has taken.”
NSUI was the first student wing of a national political party on the campus. It is said that one of the senior leader himself was responsible for the loss last year, who managed to get cross voting.
FOUR GROUPS UNDER NSUI
There were four NSUI groups on campus, namely-Manoj Lubana group, Jhonny group, Manpreet Sandhu group and Jugnu group who indulged in fighting among themselves during last month for grabbing positions in the organisation.
Every group was demanding a position and at the time of panel announcement the Jugnu group walked out and launched a new organisation. Rohit Rana, a leader of the NSUISF, said, “We were not satisfied from the panel seats they announced. Irrelevant posts were introduced. We only demanded fair representation in the panel and they failed to do so. So, we were left with this resort only.”
Manoj Lubana said, “We had almost reached a stage of compromise. Egos of other groups could have been satisfied to some extent only. The other party has no affiliation with national party. The posts now declared are decided by the NSUI office and disciplinary action would be taken against those who will use our name.”
The NSUISF’s panel which has been announced includes Rohit Rana (MA English) as president, Vinod Dahiya as party president, Harinder Dhindsa as chairman, Deepak Kundu (Billa) as executive president, Rubal Romana as party coordinator and Mallika Singh as chief patron.
Other posts in panel were also announced. New panel of NSUI as announced includes Manpreet Sandhu as president, Sukhjit Singh as party president Navdeep Singh as campus president Nishant Maini as senior campus president (North). Panel for all colleges has also been announced.
