Chandigarh: Tough stance and looks of Punjab Police cops can certainly give nightmare to anyone, though breaking this myth, paintings made by the two Punjab Police cops are winning the hearts of the city residents at the national Crafts Mela being held at Kalagram, Manimajra, Chandigarh.
Sitting a few steps ahead of the main stage, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Punjab police Lakwinder Singh and head constable Tajinder Pal Singh are busy in painting best of their imaginations to lure the city residents.
When the Daily Post team visited the area being named as ‘Painter Corner,’ both Lakwinder Singh and Tajinder Pal Singh shared, “Since childhood, we had the passion for drawing our imaginations on the canvas but after we joined the police force, we hardly go anytime to puruse our talent to next level.”
“This is the first time that we have come to city beautiful, displaying out talent. We really feel very proud that our senior officials gave us an excellent opportunity to get the exposure which we were waiting for years,” shared Lakwinder Singh, whose paintings have been displayed in the Police Art Galleryat Phillaur (Jalandhar).
“Till now, I have made thousands of paintings. While out of them, about 100 have been displayed in the Art Gallery and three have been displayed in Punjab Police headquarter, added Lakwinder Singh. Lakwinder Singh has done his expertise in sketching the portraits of all the retired Punjab Police DGP. While he has also painted a series of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Darbar.
People are surprised
‘’When I was making my painting, a group of students came and praised the painting. Then they asked if I was a professional painter from some village. When I revealed that I am a cop, they were surprised and starting requesting me to wear my official dress, and then paint. While on the last day I am planning to wear my official dress an complete my last painting at the Mela.”

Meanwhile, others than these cops, many other painters who are experts in various other cultural arts including Phad painting a style of religious scroll painting and folk painting, practiced in Rajasthan, Mughal style painting, a particular style of South Asian painting, generally confined to miniatures either as book illustrations or as single works to be kept in albums.
